Good Mooooornin'!

Tue Aug 11, 2015, 6:51 AM
Howdy! I wanted to write a quick update since I haven't had any art to post lately...sorry 'bout that.

The funny thing is I'm creating art on a daily basis, but since it's all for work I can't exactly post it yet hahah. I AM LOVING MY JOB THOUGH!!! I feel like I'm right where I'm supposed to be and I am absolutely loving every moment. I've learned so much and it's only been two months since I started here. The people are awesome and we just moved to a new building with a great view and it's nice and bright so it's all happy and I love it. XD

Aaaand my husband got into his university of choice so he'll be starting school here in a couple of weeks to finish his degree! I'm really excited for him. We've gone through a lot of low points since we got married, but they've made us stronger as individuals and a family and we're grateful for the lessons we've learned (as hard as some of them were to go through). I am working on other projects - albeit slowly- but hopefully I'll get some new work thrown up here soon!

I am still alive and I'm very grateful for the support and love you guys give me. YOU ROCK.

I Got a New Job!!!!

Tue Jun 16, 2015, 9:14 PM
HEY!

So I've been MIA for a bit and I do apologize - I've had a lot going on!

Last week I started at my new job as an Illustrator for Cricut! I can't even begin to tell you how much I freaking love it! Not only am I making considerably more money than my previous job, but I'm getting paid to draw and craft and be creative. WHAAAAA?! It's seriously so amazing. Seriously. If I could have created my dream job (aside from being an artist at Disney or Pixar) this would be it. And it only takes me 8 minutes to drive to work. 8 minutes you guys!

My husband is going to go back to school full time and I get to start my art career. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I'm totally in my element. I'm loving every second of it. It's nice because I'm finally learning Illustrator along with other things and that'll give me a broader range of skill sets.

I'm also working on some super exciting freelance projects! So all in all, I'm extremely busy but I haven't been this happy in a long time. Now that life is settling down a bit I should be able to get some artwork posted, so I'll be back!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Jobs?

Wed May 13, 2015, 6:26 AM
I know it's a long shot, but I'm searching for a new job and wanted to throw the line out there and see if anything bites.
If any of you knows of any job openings, hit me up!

That's all really.

Sorry for the lack of updates - I have some stuff coming but it takes time. Decent character development always does.

I CAN SEE THE SUN!

Wed Apr 29, 2015, 6:35 AM
Howdy ya'll!

Just wanted to give a quick update. We received some good news this week - my husband got a new job! You may have guessed our recent troubles were job related...if not, now you know lol. It's part time and he gets to choose his own schedule, which means we can pursue further schooling for him and we don't have to find a sitter/daycare for our son. SO BLESSED. And there are opportunities for him to move up in the future, so I'm hoping I'll be able to quit soon and be a mom/artist full time.

Until then, I'm just so overwhelmingly grateful we can pay our rent and still have one of us home with our son at all times. Seriously, we've been so stressed. I did not want to get kicked out of our apartment... o.O

Now I can get my tooth fixed - I lost a filling right after our troubles started so I have this huge crater in my tooth. And I can get a haircut, which I've desperately needed for a couple of months now. And maybe get a new phone lol. And pay my emergency room bill that will show up any day...I don't think I wrote about that...I had a little scare. We still don't know what it was - possibly a blood clot - but my left arm started hurting really bad out of nowhere and got extremely weak and shaky and numb. My heart rate sky rocketed and I was nauseous and dizzy. We didn't know what it was; I was scared it might be a heart attack or something. It seriously freaked me out. So we called the paramedics to be safe - they said my heart rate was elevated but they didn't think it was an attack. They said I should get to the emergency room though to make sure. So my husband drove me and we got me all checked out. I ended up having an MRI done to rule out a stroke because after doing some tests they found something was indeed wrong with my arm (the doctor had me hold my arms out in front of me, then close my eyes and when I did my left arm started dropping and I couldn't stop it.) We hesitated because MRI's are expensive, even with insurance, but my family said they'd help us out and they'd rather know if there was anything serious going on. So we did it. Everything came back normal so basically I got a very expensive diagnosis of "We have no idea what happened, but your heart and brain look great!" It could have been stress related, which wouldn't be super surprising considering everything we've been dealing with lately. I honestly felt stupid afterwards, but I've never felt anything like that before. It freaked me out! And at least we know for sure nothing serious is going on - if we hadn't done it I would have just stressed out more because I'd keep asking myself "What if?"

So yeah, we've been focusing on necessities as of late - anything frivolous or non-life threatening has been put off. It's a relief having some of that stress gone.

I will say this for trials though - they sure make you learn and grow a LOT in a short amount of time. Trials suck. Seriously. But I'm grateful for them. We've learned a lot over the past month or so and they're lessons we'll take with us to help us in the future.

I brokeded My Phone... :(

Fri Apr 24, 2015, 6:12 AM
I went to take a picture of the sunset last night and suddenly my phone turned into a fish and jumped right out of my grasp...landing screendown on the cement. It was one of those slow motion moments where you were watching it happen and completely helpless to stop it. I almost had to laugh when I saw my shattered screen because little stupid things like this keep happening and it's getting a little ridiculous hahah.

The phone itself still functions, I just need to be careful that I don't slice my finger on broken glass trying to use it...which with my luck lately is bound to happen sooner or later...

I have had the phone for 2 1/2 years, which for being such a klutz and having an almost 2 year old running around who loves to throw things that's pretty good! So it really is time for an upgrade. It just happened at a time we can't exactly afford to do an upgrade...

Life sure has been sending a lot of lemons my way lately - some bigger than others. Maybe with summer coming life knew I'd want lemonade. :)

Hey! First of all, if you don't know Turtle-Arts, you're missing out. She's AWESOME and you should go visit her. Like, now.

Second, she is currently in the process of making an amazing RP group called Sybal Heim. I was recently added as a Mod for the group because I could NOT RESIST! Seriously, the story is fantastic, the art and characters are unique and it's going to be a great time!

And we're looking for one more Mod! If you're at all interested in story and art, you should at least check it out. There will be some time commitment involved as a Mod but it'll be pretty laid back and (in my opinion) totally worth it. If you don't feel like you can commit, that's cool. But you should still consider joining once applications open up! This group has something really special about it and it'll be an awesome time!

Want to be a Moderator?(Apps close tonight!)
:bulletblack::bulletblack::bulletblack: We Need One More Moderator! :bulletblack::bulletblack::bulletblack:
*****Hey guys! Today is the last day for applying for the last Mod spot if you're interested!  If you haven't applied yet and want to, be sure to get your note in before midnight tonight! We've got several applicants already but are open for more.  After tonight we'll be closing the spot and reviewing. Then we should be able to announce the final mod after a few days.*****
Alright guys, behind-the-scenes work on this group is moving along nicely, and we are incredibly excited to get this ball rolling! But we need one more moderator to round off the set! I know a few of you have expressed interest in the position, so instead of private invitation, we're putting out a call for people to apply for this last spot.  So if you're interested in helping with the group management, read on!
First off, let me establish what you'

Weather Forecast

Mon Apr 6, 2015, 11:44 AM
Here's a quick weather update for my wonderful friends and watchers. :)

Many of you know my family and I have been experiencing some heavy rain storms lately. It looks like we'll continue to have rain for the unforeseeable future, but we're still dancing away and there have been breaks in the clouds here and there letting in some sunlight. We've actually been very humbled and grateful for this experience. While difficult, we've seen many small miracles that have helped us along and taught us a lot. I know not everyone believes in God but if you're familiar with me at all, you know that I do. I've seen His hand again and again in my life - especially during the hard times - and this is no different. He's leading me and my family through this dark storm, showing us that no matter what we're experiencing, no matter how hard it seems, we're never alone and He'll help us find our way.

So no, I still don't know what the future holds for us, but I know it's going to be okay.

And I apologize for the lack of art. This storm has pulled my focus away and I've been busy trying to take care of other things - if I owe you art, DON'T WORRY. I'll be back on my game soon! Thanks for your patience!

I choose to dance in the rain.

Mon Mar 23, 2015, 12:08 PM
I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone for your support over the weekend! Friday sucked, no doubt about it. I didn't get much accomplished at work because I was so nervous about what was going on. I didn't even eat. We've never experienced anything quite like this before and it wasn't a cool way to start the weekend. I'm still not going to go into detail about what happened because it's not entirely my business to share. It does directly affect me, hence my freak-out on Friday, but that doesn't give me permission to share details.

I will say this - I am SO glad the person who caused all of this is a massive liar, because if what he initially told us was true the situation would have been a whole lot worse. Like possible police involvement. But thanks to the fact that half of what he says isn't true and the other half is a lie means it was all a means to an end and we're better off cutting ties and moving on. Which we have. Once we learned the truth, we felt a lot of relief and it's been easier to put this behind us and look forward to what lies ahead. We're still hurting a bit. Our situation is insecure. There are some things that are unclear and we have a lot of work to do, but we feel an assurance that there IS a plan for our family and that things will work out.

All of that being said, commissions are STILL open and I could really use them. Even more than I did before...

On another sad note, my in-laws had to put their sweet dog Jenny to sleep this last Saturday. (This weekend wasn't the happiest for us) She was 13 1/2 years old and was going downhill fast. We were all amazed she lived as long as she did. We got to go say goodbye to her though, which meant a lot to my husband since they got her when he was in junior high and she was practically his dog. Her passing was very peaceful and I'm sure she's much happier now  - no more pain!

This weekend has shown me once again that sometimes life chooses to rain on us; sometimes it chooses to pour. But we get to choose how we react.
We freaked out a bit at first - I think everyone is entitled to a freak out now and then - but we've decided to dance in the rain and look forward to the sun. :)

I'm not a violent person but...

Fri Mar 20, 2015, 12:10 PM
Seriously. Some people need a good kick to the face. With steel-toed boots.

I'm literally sick to my stomach I'm so upset right now. Sitting at work, trying not to cry. I don't need any inquiries from curious co-workers.

It's hard to watch something unfair happen to someone you love, with no way to make it better. No, I won't go into details because it's still fresh and I don't know if anything more will come of it. Which hopefully it won't. I just have this awful feeling and I don't know why. My stomach is all in knots.

I just...don't get it. Everything happens for a reason, right? Good and bad? It'll all work out, right?

....right?

Hey guys! I got this from Aledles! I thought it is a marvelous idea, so I decided to participate!

The rules:
Bullet; White Comment below, and I will come to your gallery to choose four of your works that will be featured in this journal.

Bullet; White If you comment, you have to do the same in your journal, putting the tagger (me) and four of my works on the first place.

Bullet; White The number of people taking part is unlimited 15, but you have to be my friend or my watcherI'm sorry, but I don't like it when an unknown person comes to me only in order to get a free feature and run away to never come again.

The idea of this is not to get a free feature, it is to spread art around for everyone!

Howdy frieeeens!

Long story short, my husband and I are in a bit of a financial pickle. We're working through it but could use some help. I haven't even been able to upgrade my subscription because I've needed the money from my last round of commissions for more important things. Oh well! I'll get there eventually.

Anywho - Commissions are OPEN! If you can't commission me, I would SO appreciate you spreading the word! I'll be keeping them open for awhile too because I don't actually know how long it'll take us to eat through this pickle of ours. Below are my updated commission policies and prices. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message! I'm always willing to negotiate a little with price because...heheh that's what happens when you're desperate. O.o

THANKS EVERYONE! Seriously, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the love and support I get here. Why do you think I've been here for 10+ years? ALL THE LOOOOOOVE!

My subscription is expiring tomorrow. Ugh. I hate those stupid ads.

Would anyone be interested in commissions? I'll accept both money and points - I just don't have the personal funds to purchase a subscription. They'd be quick commissions, like $10-$20 depending on how detailed the characters are. I don't know what that converts to point-wise. They'd be done using my lineless style (see style examples below) and probably head shots/busts.

Comment here or send a note if you're interested!

Stuff for Sale!

Wed Feb 4, 2015, 11:38 AM
Hey guys!

Okay, I don't know if I officially announced it but I started selling LuLaRoe clothing a couple of months ago in an attempt to bring in some extra income for my family. It's been fun but we've decided it's not really working for our family and situation so I'm stopping in order to focus on what I truly want to do - art.

But that means I need to sell off all of my inventory. Which is quite a lot.

So I'm trying to spread the word! If any of you are interested in seeing what I have for sale, check out my website - shayfifearts.com. Click on "LuLaRoe With Shay" to see the pricing, sale and you can look up my entire inventory here. I can only ship within the US however so if you're international I'm afraid I can't - not my rules, it's company policy because they're still a very young company and haven't worked out all those details.

If you would like to buy something, feel free to message me here or at lularoewithshay@gmail.com and we'll work out the details. I might even throw in some free art with your order. :)

If you aren't interested but are willing to spread the word I'd really appreciate it! EVERYTHING MUST GO so any help means a lot!

Thanks!

Society6?

Fri Jan 16, 2015, 12:47 PM
Hey, I'm researching different ways of offering prints etc. and was wondering if anyone has experience with Society6.

Do you sell? Have you bought anything from there? What's the quality like?

Do you have any questions for me?

Thu Jan 8, 2015, 8:25 AM
Howdy!

I've been talking to Miss-Melis the past couple of days and its come to my attention that there's an awful lot of things people don't know about me. So I thought it would be fun to put together an "About Me" page for a website I'm putting together so you can all get to know the artist behind the art a little better. :)

SO! If any of you have any questions for me, now is the time to ask away! I won't answer anything super personal or inappropriate, but pretty much anything else is cool with me. I guess I just want you to know I'm approachable and a pretty cool person (from what I've been told lol).

Aaaaaand if no one has any, I'll just post random facts.

Post-Holiday Wish List!

Mon Dec 29, 2014, 8:53 AM
Howdy! So, the ever amazing ElementalJess tagged me to create a Holiday Wish List for myself. I thought it was a cool idea! Let's face it, January is one of the most depressing months of the year, so why not continue spreading some love and joy even after the calendar tells us it's time to move on? We all have the power to grant wishes for our friends and I'm sure we all have post-holiday wishes we'd still like granted! So, if you want to get in on spreading some Holiday cheer, post your journal and let's make some wishes come true!

STEP ONE
Make a post to your DA journal. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a ______ icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("all I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV."). The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. (or mention to send a note or somethin').

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your DA or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO
Surf around your friends list (or friends' friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now, here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use -- do it.

You need not spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf -- to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not -- it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Give and you might receive, and you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special!

MY WISH LIST:

1. Fan art of my characters always makes me SO HAPPY. I can't even tell you.

2. Renewed premium membership - I only have a week left! How does the year fly by so fast?!

3. This Book! www.amazon.com/Art-Avatar-Jame…

4. Treasure/Gems for Flight Rising - I have several genes I'm saving for. (My username is lilowlaroo)

5. Iridescent, Shimmer, Crystal or Facet genes for Flight Rising (I'm going for the big boys here.)

6. I'm throwing this out there in case there's a random millionaire following me who has money to burn on a poor artist. store.wacom.com/us/en/product/…

7. Chocolate? Really good chocolate.

8. Earrings. I like dangling earrings.

9. Uuuuuum...a virtual hug? XD

10. A new sketchbook. I need to start sketching again...it can even be pieces of paper thrown together! I don't really like super expensive ones.

Happy Holidays! Looking forward to a wonderful New Year!
